SHILLONG: Tura MP Saleng A Sangma has said the recent petrol bomb attacks on offices and burning of vehicles in Shillong could indicate that “something is wrong”, urging the government to listen to the concerns of the people.
Speaking to reporters, Saleng said the prevailing fear and tension in the state capital suggested that there could be shortcomings on the government’s part. He, however, condemned acts of violence and unlawful activities in society.
He urged the government not to turn a blind eye when people raise concerns and to address their grievances, warning that continued unrest could affect the state’s economy, particularly tourism.
Meghalaya, he said, has built a strong reputation as a tourist destination, but a lack of peace and stability could adversely affect tourism and livelihoods.
