Government to prepare blueprint on the demands of the HPC before taking a final call

SHILLONG, April 25: The Deputy Chief Minister of Meghalaya who is also the Chairman of the High Level Committee (HLC), Prestone Tynsong said that the Government has agreed to the demand of the Harijan Panchayat Committee of getting an area for the 342 households in Them Ïew Mawlong, and instructions have also been given to the Department of Urban Affairs to prepare the necessary requirements and the final call will be taken in the meeting to be held in the second week of May.

The Government and the Harijan Panchayat Committee (HPC) met for the second time today the 25th of April, after the Meghalaya High Court instructed both parties to resolve this matter.

Speaking with media persons, Tynsong said that the HPC has agreed to relocate from Them Ïew Mawlong, but have put up a few conditions. He said that with regards to this demand, the Government will prepare a blueprint and after that they will be informed, followed by another meeting to be held so that the final call to be taken.

On being queried, the Deputy Chief Minister said that one of the demands is provide a plot of land where all the 342 households can reside, and the other is for them to be the owners of those houses built on the said land. He said that the Government has identified about 2-3 places and the decision will be taken after an inspection has been completed by the Department of Urban Affairs.
