After 4 days of agitation by the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyaan teachers under the banner of the Meghalaya SSA School Association which began on Monday of this week, the teachers have expressed satisfaction after meeting with the Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong who has promised to pay 4 months salaries of the teachers in the week to come.
The President of MSSASA, Aristotle Rymbai said that the meeting with the Deputy Chief Minister was a satisfactory one because the has promised and also stated the same in black and white that it will pay their 4 months salaries in the coming week. He said the association is satisfied with this decision even though the pending due is 5 months, because the Government has promised to pay the pending salary once the funds arrive from the Central Government.
Rymbai informed that the Government has promised to pay the salaries of the teachers by taking out Rs.78 crores from the corpus fund apart from the Rs.44 crores received the Central Government.
On being queried about the continuity of the agitation, the leader of the SSA teachers said that the final decision will be taken collectively by all the teachers, however he said that as leaders they are happy with today’s meeting with the Government.
With regard to the demand of enhancing their wages, Rymbai said that the Association will wait for the Education Commission to be constituted by the Government which will look into the demands of the teachers.
