GOVERNMENT TO FILE AN AFFIDAVIT IN RESPONSE TO HIGH COURT’S STAY ORDER ON THE RECRUITMENT PROCESS

HEADLINES

SHILLONG, April 11: After the order of the High Court of Meghalaya to stop all recruitment processes temporarily in Government departments due to the absence of a roster system as per the reservation policy, the State Government has instructed the Chief Secretary to find ways and means to start the recruitment process again.

The Deputy Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Prestone Tynsong said that the Chief Secretary and the Government are working hard to be free from this order and soon it shall file a response in the form of an affidavit to the Court.

He said that even though there is no roster system as per the reservation policy of the State in the recruitment process, but government departments apply the reservation policy in the recruitment process, and added that even though the Government has implemented the reservation policy, yet the Honourable High Court has directed the Government to present a roster system for all the vacant posts.

In being queried, he said that the Government will not take much time in filing the affidavit with the High Court, so that the recruitment process in different Government departments in the State is not affected.

It may be reminded that the High Court of Meghalaya on the 5th of April issued an order for the State Government to stop all recruitment processes temporarily in all government departments until otherwise notified. The order of the High Court of Meghalaya was based on the absence of a roster or the lack of clarification on how many vacancies are meant for which reserved category as per the reservation policy, and the recruitment processes can begin again after a roster system has been put in place.

Meanwhile, when asked about the inclusion of the Khasi and Garo language in the Eighth Schedule, the Deputy Chief Minister said that with regard to the inclusion of the Khasi and Garo language, talks and scrutiny are in process, and this does not mean that Hindi will be the chosen medium. He said that just as the Government had approved the resolution in the Legislative Assembly to recognise the Khasi and Garo language, so also, till now it is pursuing the matter.
