EVEN AFTER MAJOR CONTRIBUTIONS,TEACHERS ARE STILL DISREGARDED: DR.JEMINO
SHILLONG, December 20 : The General Secretary of the United Democratic Party (UDP), Jemino Mawthoh expressed great shock on seeing the notification issued by the Government which bars teachers from taking active part in political activities.
He said that the notification issued is unclear or incomprehensive and has expressed that the Government must re-examine the notification thoroughly once again and issue another comprehensive notification to avoid confusion.
Dr. Jemino Mawthoh, a professional from the teaching fraternity who has entered politics said that at present in the state, there are several categories of teachers and to highlight on the discussion, in the Universities in India, in the past, many from the teaching fraternity like Dr.Manmohan Singh,Murli Manohar Joshi or for that matter, present Rajya Sabha MP, Rakesh Sinha from Delhi University and many others, entered politics during their tenure as teachers, but at present though, there has been a decline in teachers entering politics.
At the same time, Mawthoh said that teachers are the worst affected for even after giving their best effort in shaping the future of the students, in Meghalaya atleast, their situation is deplorable, for even after contributing greatly towards the promotion of education in the state and society, they are disregarded and the notification issued has further squashed them towards rejection.
The UDP leader has requested the Government to give the matter due importance and find ways and means to remove the problems faced by a majority of teachers, and has especially requested the Chief Minister who also holds the Finance portfolio to release the salaries of teachers during this festive season when everyone in the world is filled with the Christmas spirit.
