SHILLONG, January 24: The General Secretary of the United Democratic Party (UDP), Dr.Jemino Mawthoh said that the Government must direct the Inquiry Committees constituted for the investigation processes on the charges of irregularities in the Power Department, rice scam of the Social Welfare Department seized from Boko Assam and the killing of former HNLC leader, Cheristerfield Thangkhiew.
He said that the party is deeply concerned and talks are being carried out in the party to urge the Government to speed up the investigation processes of the committees constituted to unearth the truths on all the allegations made.
He said that when an Inquiry Committee is constituted, the people have a right to know the truth and added that the Government should direct the Inquiry Committees to not take too much time in completing the tasks allotted to them as the people want to know the truth.
Mawthoh also said that for those involved or found to have committed the crime, the law will judge them accordingly but the people who fight to find out the truth have a right to know too and the Government from its end must speed up the inquiry process to arrive faster at a clarification.
On being asked about the slow progression of the inquiry process, the UDP leader stated that he is not sure of the reason that has caused a slow progression but he said that perhaps there are a few inadequacies here and there, and stressed again for the inquiry committees to speed up their process so that the public will not remain in the dark and also so that there is a clear understanding where the fault and inadequacy lie so that it can be rectified sooner.
