HEADLINES

SHILLONG, March 15: The Government in the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly informed that the operations of the Shillong-Delhi flights operated by FlyBig has been temporarily stopped, and this is due to Spicejet’s failure in providing the aircrafts for FlyBig.

Responding to the question today, the Minister incharge of the Department of Transport, Dasakhiatbha Lamare informed in the Assembly that the Department has already issued a show cause notice to FlyBig, to which the company requested it be given till the end of the month to start the operations of the flights. He said that the Department has allocated more than ₹2 crores for the project.

On being asked about the reasons for the delay in operating the Shillong-Delhi flights, the Minister said that FlyBig has taken aircrafts on lease from Spicejet for the Shillong-Delhi flights since it started its operations in December 2020. However, due the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, Spicejet could no longer provide aircrafts to FlyBig.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister, Conrad K.Sangma said that the Government will thoroughly examine all necessary aspects if FlyBig continues in delaying the operations of the Shillong-Delhi and Delhi-Shillong flights.

Sangma said that FlyBig has acquired the aircrafts now but due to a few technical clearance from the Ministry of Civil Aviation, the whole matter has been delayed. He expressed hope that in the few coming weeks, they can see the beginning of the operations and if it does not start or cannot be operated, all aspects will be examined and other measures will be sought and taken in order to move ahead.
