The Meghalaya government has approved the Meghalaya Journalists Welfare Scheme 2024, significantly increasing financial aid for journalists facing challenges in their profession or health issues.
Information Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh announced that under the new scheme, ex-gratia support for deceased journalists has been raised from ₹1 lakh to ₹5 lakh, while medical assistance has been increased to ₹3 lakh.
The government is also planning additional support for senior journalists, with a dedicated committee to oversee and evaluate their needs.
