Four Police Officers Suspended After CCTV Reveals Planting Drugs on a man

Mumbai: Four police officers in Mumbai were suspended after a CCTV video emerged showing them planting drugs on a man during a raid in the Kalina area of Santacruz East. The incident occurred around 5:50 PM on August 30. The video footage shows two officers conducting a search on the man while two others supervise. One officer is seen discreetly placing something in the suspect’s pocket before they arrest him for allegedly possessing 20 grams of mephedrone.

The officers, including a police sub-inspector and three constables from the Anti-Terror Cell of the Khar police station, had detained the victim, identified as Daniel, on the open plot of land where the raid occurred. Daniel later told a local news channel that the officers had previously threatened to frame him under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. However, after realizing their actions were caught on CCTV and the footage went viral, they released him.

An associate of Daniel claimed that the incident was instigated by a builder due to a dispute over the plot of land. DCP Raj Tilak Roshan confirmed to PTI that disciplinary action was taken against the four officers for not adhering to proper procedures and for their suspicious conduct as seen in the video. They have been suspended pending an inquiry.
