FKJGP demands revocation of NIFT tender alleging favouritism toward non-local agencies

The Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) has called on the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) to revoke a tender issued on January 15, citing concerns that the criteria favor agencies from outside the state, leaving local tribal firms at a disadvantage.

In a letter to NIFT Director Shankar Kumar Jha, FKJGP Vice President Kitboklang Nongphlang expressed strong objections to the conditions laid out in the tender, accusing NIFT of creating a biased process. He urged the NIFT to revise the criteria to better suit the needs and capacities of local tribal agencies and firms.

“The current tender conditions are a clear case of favoritism, favoring external agencies and sidelining local businesses. This has the potential to demoralize local tribal firms,” Nongphlang said.

He pointed to specific terms in the Bid Evaluation Sheet, which included requirements for an annual turnover of over 100 crores in the last three years and a demand for up to 2,000 security personnel. Nongphlang argued that these conditions were designed to favor large, non-local firms with the resources to meet such criteria.

“These conditions are unreasonable for local firms, especially when an institution of NIFT’s size only requires 100-150 security personnel. Requiring up to 2,000 is unnecessary and impractical,” he added.

Nongphlang further emphasized that many local tribal agencies and firms have strong reputations and a proven track record, but the tender’s terms would effectively exclude them from competing on a level playing field.

The FKJGP has demanded that NIFT reassess the tender criteria and make amendments to ensure local tribal businesses are not unfairly excluded from the bidding process.
