Shillong: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Monday informed that the first round of the second phase of border talks between Assam and Meghalaya will likely begin in the month of May.
“Maybe sometime in the month of May we will try to initiate the first round of discussions or continue the next round of discussions for the border talks”, said CM Conrad.
“So let the time come, I expect that in May, we will be able to start the next phase,”
It may be mentioned, regional committees have been reconstituted for the second round of Assam-Meghalaya talks over the remaining six areas of difference. The two Deputy Chief Ministers – Prestone Tynsong and Sniawbhalang Dhar – will head the regional committees for Ri Bhoi district and West Jaintia Hills district respectively while cabinet minister Paul Lyngdoh will be the chairman of the regional committee for West Khasi Hills district.
