SHILLONG, April 26: The Minister incharge of the Department of Education, Lahkmen Rymbui said that the Adhoc teachers have been appointed by the School Managing Committees but financial assistance has been extended by the Government to the SMCs to run the schools and to pay the salaries of teachers, and added that the Government may raise the financial assistance extended to the schools, which at present is being examined in detailed.

He said that the Government spends Rs.1700 crores in a year only for Education and the Government will not shy away from what it needs to do, however it will have to look at the methods of implementation, so that they do not affect other processes of the Government.

As a reminder, the Adhoc teachers under the banner of FASToM held a public agitation on the 22nd of this month to demand for a raise in the salaries of teachers from the Government, and after the unfruitful talk with the officers of the Department of Education, they made an announcement to go ahead with the indefinite non-cooperation movement.

From the Minister’s end, he has urged the Adhoc teachers to continue with the duties entrusted to them and to not make the students as sacrificial lambs, and he also urged the School Managing Committees (SMC) to look into the smooth functioning of a schools.

On being queried, Rymbui said that he will be asking for a report on this agitation, how many of the teachers took part in the agitation without going to school and the Government will see what action needs to be taken.

Rymbui said that the teachers must understand that the process of the Government does not allow any decision to be taken so easily as any decision taken how has a bearing on the future, and added that the teachers must go and teach so that the government can look into what needs to be done for the welfare of everyone.
