Shillong: A tourist vehicle narrowly escaped a major tragedy on Tuesday evening after a massive boulder fell onto the Shillong–Pynursla–Dawki road and struck the vehicle near Laitlyngkot.
The incident occurred below Laitlyngkot while the vehicle was travelling towards Pynursla. According to reports, the boulder suddenly came crashing down onto the roadway and hit the right side of the moving vehicle.
Photographs from the scene show the huge rock lodged against the vehicle, causing significant damage to its right side, including the front fender and side mirror. Mud and debris were also seen scattered across the road, indicating a fresh rockfall triggered by unstable weather conditions in the area.
Despite the impact, all occupants of the vehicle escaped unhurt, averting what could have been a fatal accident.
The incident briefly disrupted traffic movement along the Shillong–Pynursla–Dawki route, a busy corridor frequented by tourists and local commuters. Authorities and local residents later moved to clear the obstruction and restore normal traffic flow.
Interestingly, despite being struck by a massive boulder, the Tata Nexon sustained only limited damage and its passenger compartment appeared largely intact.
The Tata Nexon holds a five-star safety rating under both Bharat NCAP and Global NCAP crash tests, earning high scores for adult and child occupant protection.
