DEPUTY CM DIRECTS THE NHIDCL AND ENGINEERS TO BE CAUTIONS OF LANDSLIDES

SHILLONG,April 04: The Deputy Chief Minister incharge of PWD(Roads), Prestone Tynsong said that he has directed the Secretary of PWD to instruct the Executive Engineer of all divisions to be cautious and to be prepared of any change in weather conditions which can bring about damages to roads and lanes.

Today, the morning of the 4th of April, a major landslide occured on NH-40 from Shillong-Dawki in the area of Siatbakon. Fortunately, in this incident no one was injured except for an Alto car and a traffic jam which lasted for hours.

Speaking with the Deputy Chief Minister, he said that the landslide and cutting off of roads can happen any time due to the change in weather conditions and construction work to widen the road.

On the cut-off of the Shillong-Dawki road in Rngain area, he refused that it was due to quarry mining or presence of quarry mines but he said that of it rains, landslides can occur as the landslide is also on parts where the road is being widened.

Tynsong said that he has also instructed the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation (NHIDCL) and the company which has undertaken the construction work to be prepared to clear the road in the case of landslides.
