Shillong: Yesterday, some defence force personnels suddenly arrived at one site under the jurisdiction of the Dorbar Shnong of Lummawbah and began erecting boundary stones and also put up signboards at the site to indicate that it is a part of defence land.
This high-handedness of the defence force made the local residents and especially the members of the local body administration extremely furious.
Speaking with t7, the office bearers of the Dorbar Shnong of Lummawbah consisting of Everest Thangkhiew, Headman, Arju Dkhar, Secretary and Richard Khongwir, Executive Committee Member, could not help but express their anger and fury on this arrogant and arbitrary act of the defence force by encroaching on a site which falls under the jurisdiction of the Dorbar Shnong of Lummawbah.
Arju Dkhar from his end expressed that the move of the defence force was a sudden one without the information of the district administration and has caused a lot of distrust which may also disrupt the peace and harmony of the locality, pushing even women folk and youths of the locality to express their protest against the arbitrary act of the defence force.
Everest Thangkhiew as the Headman said that this incident is not surprising as it has been happening frequently from time to time for a very long time.
With regards to the encroachment on the site, Thangkhiew said that the Dorbar Shnong had felt it was right, given past experiences, to speak with their local representatives and seek for a building to be constructed on this community site for the benefit of the youths.
Following the approval and after all formalities were completed, the next step to be taken was to start the construction, but then suddenly, the defence force created problems and forcefully stopped all construction works at once and even went to the extent of erecting boundary stones on this site to claim the same as defence land.
