Shillong, August 31: The state government has announced that schools (class 9 to class 12) and colleges will be opened from tomorrow (September 1st) and for this, the government has released the SOPs to protect the students from the virus.
On discussing with the Minister of Education, Lahkmen Rymbui said that even though the government has announced that schools will be opened from tomorrow, the decision still lies with the parents to send their children to school or not and at the same time, he said that the School Managing Committee should monitor the situation and ensure that the students are not at any kind of risk.
When questioned, he said that he can’t see any difficulty and he is not denying that any difficulty will come up but the decision of the government is made for the benefit of the students so they can get their education and at the same time, to ensure the safety of the students.
He also said that many parents and teachers are happy with the decision of the government to re-open the schools because the students are really affected by the year-long closure of the schools and also said that online classes was not working out and the students need proper teaching.
On the other hand, Rymbui said that according to statistics provided by the department, 75% of the teachers have been vaccinated and also said that it is required that all the teachers get vaccinated or bring their RTPCR results every 10 days.
