Shillong: East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police, Sylvester Nongtynger, announced a strict enforcement drive against the use of tinted windows on vehicles, stating that only sitting MLAs and Ministers are permitted to use such modifications.
Private citizens, including former MLAs and MDCs, are prohibited from installing tinted glass on their vehicles.
Speaking to reporters on Friday, SP Nongtynger said that the police are conducting an intensive crackdown, actively checking vehicles for illegal tinting. Offenders will face penalties as per the law. Since July, authorities have seized around 1,700 vehicles, including 30 government-owned ones, for violating this regulation.
Private individuals seeking exemptions must submit applications to a government committee, which will decide on the approval of tinted glass usage.
