Congress Gaining Ground Again, Says Saleng; Criticizes MDA Government’s Land Deals

HEADLINES

Saleng A. Sangma, the Congress MP from Tura, has stated that the public and leaders from various sectors are returning to the Congress party after realizing the shortcomings of the current ruling parties, particularly the ones leading the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA).

Speaking today, Saleng emphasized that people no longer trust other political parties and are now looking towards the Congress for a better future. He said the public will make their decision during elections, deciding whether they want change or not.

Referring to the current government, led by the National People’s Party (NPP), Saleng criticized the government’s handling of land issues, particularly the decision to extend lease terms for land from 30 to 60 years to companies. He likened this move to selling land, warning of the potential negative impacts it could have. He also pointed out that while having an MLA or MDC may not directly influence this, the ultimate decision rests with the people.

Saleng also suggested that if the MDA-led government continues its policies, there is a risk of undermining the district councils, leading to further challenges in governance and development.
