Shillong: The Catholic Association of Shillong has donated ₹5 lakh to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, Assam, to support people affected by the recent devastating floods in the state.
On October 4, a delegation led by the Association’s Vice President Barnabas Nongbah handed over a draft for ₹5 lakh to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
The delegation included H. Kharlyngdoh, General Secretary of the Catholic Association of Shillong; Carlus Kharkongor, Past President of Synjuk ki Seng Rangbah, Shillong Archdiocese; and Henry Mannar, President of Synjuk ki Rangbah, Jowai Diocese.
The amount was contributed by the faithful of the Shillong Archdiocese in response to an appeal by the Local Ordinary to extend assistance to families and communities affected by the recent floods in Assam.
The contribution reflects the Church community’s effort to extend humanitarian assistance and solidarity to those affected by the disaster.
