The National Commission for Women (NCW) has taken strong action against Dahun Dkhar, a man accused of setting his wife ablaze, leaving her with severe injuries. The incident has raised alarm in the Khasi community, which traditionally holds women in high regard.
The victim, from Niriang village in West Jaintia Hills, is currently undergoing treatment at Civil Hospital, Shillong. NCW member Delina Khongdup, who visited the victim, stated that the commission is committed to ensuring justice and will not relent in its efforts.
Khongdup revealed that the victim had suffered repeated abuse from her husband in the past but was silenced by threats of violence. The tragic incident came to light during her second admission to the hospital, following a worsening of her condition.
The police have arrested Dkhar after an FIR was filed against him. The NCW and authorities have vowed to pursue the case rigorously to address the broader issue of domestic violence and ensure the victim receives justice.
