Shillong: The Mawlai Police have recovered the bodies of a woman and a young child from the Wah Umshing river in Mawlai Mawiong. The deceased have been identified as Kong Niancy Riahtam and a 5-year-old child from Mawïong Umjapung. Both went missing on the morning of September 18.
Witnesses last saw them around 10 AM near the ISBT bus stand in Mawiong. Tragically, their bodies were discovered around 1:30 PM the following day in a forested area near the river. The police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding their deaths.
The bodies have been taken to Civil Hospital for postmortem examinations to determine the cause of death. The investigation is ongoing, and further details are awaited.
