BJP spokesperson Mariahom Kharkhrang expressed his sadness over the tragic death of the youth en route to the Cherry Blossom Festival, noting that with the investigation still ongoing.
He added that it is too early to assign blame on anyone. However, allegations have surfaced suggesting that a police vehicle escorting the Minister of Tourism might be responsible.
Kharkhrang added that while government ministers are entitled to police escorts for security, the misuse of sirens and VIP privileges has become a growing problem. He pointed out that many government vehicles are equipped with sirens and lights, despite the occupants not qualifying for VIP status.
This misuse has sparked public frustration, with calls to respect the system and not exploit its benefits. Kharkhrang urged the government to empower the police to take decisive action against individuals who abuse VIP privileges.
