BJP Meghalaya condemns Bible insult, says Sanjay Sharma holds no party post

The BJP Meghalaya has condemned the alleged insulting of the Holy Bible by Sanjay Sharma, saying such acts are contrary to the party’s principles of “positive secularism” and “integral humanism”.

Chief Spokesperson Mariahom Kharkrang said the incident was deeply painful and that people with “narrow, communal mindsets” have no place in the party.

“Insult to the Bible is as heinous an act as vandalising Swami Vivekananda’s statue,” Kharkrang said, urging authorities to initiate punitive action against the alleged offender as prescribed by law.

Kharkrang clarified that Sharma currently holds no designation in the BJP, having resigned from his post on May 8, 2026. The party is investigating whether he remains a primary member and, if so, will initiate strict disciplinary action.

He said acts such as these only discredit the party’s values and bring disrepute to the organisation and its leadership.
