Banteidor Lyngdoh pursues matter in Delhi and announces the Government will grant 50% subsidy on fertilizers

SHILLONG, August 27: The Minister incharge of Agriculture in Meghalaya, Banteidor Lyngdoh has announced that the Corporation department on the 25th of August, 2022 issued an Office Order which stated that the farmers who are supposed to get fertilizers through the MECOFED will receive a subsidy of 50% from the marked price.

In the past few days, Banteidor Lyngdoh made an official visit to New Delhi and submitted a letter to the Union Minister of Agriculture, Narendra Singh Tomar to also inform that the Government of Meghalaya through the Department of Agriculture issued an Office Order on the 9th of August,2022 permitting the farmers to use fertilizers again after more than 8 years since subsidy on fertilizers was stopped, that is from 2014.

In the official visit to Delhi, the State Minister expressed that the farmers have faced difficulties after subsidy on fertilizers was stopped, and in the letter submitted to the Union Minister he also added the allocation and the requirement of fertilizers in the State such as Urea, DAP,MOP,SSP and others.

The official visit of Lyngdoh to Delhi comes a day after a clarification meeting and public explanation on the lifting of the ban by the department on the use of fertilizers, at a meeting with farmers and traditional heads in Mawkatheiñ.

Lyngdoh said that the price of fertilizers is too costly, and this was also informed to the Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Conrad K.Sangna so that some assistance may be provided because the farmers might still have a problem in buying them. He also said that the allocation of fertilizers for the State is very low in comparison to other States while the price is too costly.

Banteidor Lyngdoh urged the State Government to allow the farmers to make use of the subsidy and the Corporation department has issued an Order which will benefit the farmers who take the fertilizers through the MECOFED. He expressed his gratitude to the State Government which gave due importance to this need of the farmers for which the Corporation department also issued the said order.
