SHILLONG, April 06: The MLA of the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) who is also the leader of the Opposition in Meghalaya, Dr.Mukul Sangma said that the border dispute between Meghalaya and Assam is long pending and complicated.
Sangma slammed the Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Conrad Kongkal Sangma for hurrying the border resolution without respecting the sentiments of the Himas and traditional system of governance, while also stating that the Assam Government is happy after signing the MoU because the Chief Minister of Meghalaya is extremely compliant to their wish.
Dr. Mukul Sangma who is also the former Chief Minister of Meghalaya, today inspected the interstate border areas in Ri-Bhoi District which includes the villages of Mawïong, Barapathar and Maikhuli.
This inspection maded by the leader of the Opposition comes after the local residents of this area came out to express their dissatisfaction over the agreement signed between the Assam Government and the Meghalaya Government because many of the villages of these local residents are now going to come under Assam.
