SHILLONG, March 30: The Hynñiewtrep Integrated Territorial Organisation (HITO) has warned that it will come up to demand a separate Khasi State as a result of the partiality of the Government in implementing schemes.
Donbok Dkhar said that HITO will meet with local Chiefs to demand for a separate Khasi State and to also speak about the reservation policy as a result of the Government’s partiality, be it at present or in the past. He said that this partiality and step-motherly treatment of the Government can be seen in the Nokmas not requiring a certificate from the District Council while the Syiems and Dolois require a certificate in order to be recognised.
The HITO sought a clarification from the Chief Minister of Meghalaya on the implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karayakaram(PMJVK),a scheme of the Central Government from the Minority Affairs for as per the RTI report, it was found that this particular scheme is implemented only in West Garo Hills which is a clear sign that the Government counts only West Garo Hills as all of Meghalaya.
HITO also further expressed that another scheme of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs for the creation of the Tribal Research Institute has been implemented only in West Garo Hills at a cost of more than Rs.5 crores.
