Akashvani Shillong organised a 5-km run in Shillong on Friday to celebrate 90 years of public broadcasting service. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, fitness enthusiasts, and members of the public.
The run was flagged off by H. Diengdoh from the Akashvani Shillong premises at Bomfyle Road at 6:00 am. Addressing the participants, he highlighted the significance of Akashvani’s nine decades of broadcasting and encouraged community participation and fitness.
The marathon route covered key locations across the city, including DIPR, DTO, MPSC Building, Barik Point, Civil Hospital Point, Little Blossom School, Hotel Polo Tower, Majestic Hotel, National People’s Party Office, and State Convention Centre before concluding at the starting point.
Certificates were distributed to all participants, while winners across four categories received medals and certificates. Authorities also ensured security, medical assistance, hydration, and traffic management for the smooth conduct of the event.
Similar marathons and walkathons are being organised nationwide as part of Akashvani’s 90th anniversary celebrations.
