SHILLONG, March 23: The BJP MLA from Pynthorumkhrah who is also a former Minister in the State Government, Alexander Laloo Hek expressed concern about the employment of many people from outside the State on a contractual basis in different projects of the State Government.
He said that in the past few days, for several positions in the projects of the Government such as under the Meghalaya Basin Development Authority(MBDA), Meghalaya AIDS Control Society(MACS), people from outside the state are brought to fill those positions which makes him pose the question also as to whether there is no qualified person in the State for such positions? He said that the employment of people from outside the State snatches the livelihood meant for local communities which are the Khasis, Jaiñtias and Garos.
Hek said that even if the reservation policy is not extended to contractual basis jobs but there are many people from the State well qualified to be employed in the vacant positions. He said further that as a representative he also spoke about this matter with the Government due to increasing number of persons from other states employed in the State.
