Shillong: The East Khasi Hills district administration and police on Thursday have thrown a tight security cordon around the Meghalaya Secretariat following the Voice of the People’s Party’s (VPP) call for a mass march and its threat to lay siege to the Secretariat.
Security personnel have been deployed in large numbers along all roads leading to the Secretariat, while police have erected metal barricades to regulate the movement of protesters. The arrangements allow demonstrators to gather on one side of the road while ensuring vehicular traffic continues on the other.
Police have also kept tear gas on standby as part of their security preparedness to deal with any untoward situation.
