Shillong: Renowned musician Lou Majaw has once again showcased his passion for music and mentorship by gifting a one-of-a-kind instrument called ‘Guitara’ to his long-time bandmate Shepherd Star Najiar.
The ‘Guitara’ is a unique fusion instrument that blends elements of a Western guitar with the traditional Khasi duitara, creating a distinctive sound that reflects both modern and indigenous musical influences.
The name itself is a creative combination—‘Gui’ from guitar and ‘Tara’ from duitara—symbolising the merging of two musical worlds.
Majaw’s gesture highlights his deep respect for Shepherd’s talent, with whom he has shared over a decade of musical collaboration. The instrument stands as a tribute to Najiar’s skills and a celebration of Shillong’s rich musical culture.
Described as both culturally rich and musically innovative, the Guitara is expected to inspire Shepherd to continue creating music that bridges traditions and contemporary styles.
