Shillong:* The Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has strongly criticised the MDA-2 government over the recent internet shutdown in Garo Hills, alleging that the government has failed to serve the people effectively.
Speaking to the media, MPCC Working President Deborah Marak said the week-long suspension of internet services had caused serious inconvenience to the public, stressing that internet access is no longer a luxury but an essential part of daily life.
She stated that without internet connectivity, people—including students, self-employed individuals, and business owners—face difficulties in carrying out their routine work and responsibilities.
Marak further pointed out that while incidents occur in other parts of the country as well, internet shutdowns are rarely imposed for such extended durations as seen in Meghalaya.
It may be mentioned that the state government had suspended internet services in parts of Garo Hills last week to curb the spread of misinformation following tensions between communities.
However, reports indicate that the internet services have now been restored in the region.
