Haemophilia Awareness Programme Held at Bhoirymbong CHC to Train Frontline Health Workers

HEADLINES

An awareness programme on understanding Haemophilia was organised by the INTAS Foundation, Shillong Transit Home, at the Bhoirymbong Community Health Centre on February 27, 2026. The programme saw the participation of around 20 frontline health workers, including ASHA and CGHA members.

The session focused on enhancing the knowledge and preparedness of community health workers on Haemophilia, its causes, symptoms and preventive care. The counsellor from the Shillong Transit Home highlighted the importance of early identification, timely referral and proper management of suspected cases to prevent serious complications such as internal bleeding and joint deformities.

Participants were trained to recognise warning signs such as excessive bleeding, frequent bruising and joint swelling. Guidance was also provided on accurate reporting, referral to higher medical centres and emergency first-aid measures, including gentle compression and immobilisation while avoiding injections.

The programme concluded with an interactive discussion, where health workers shared field experiences and clarified doubts, strengthening their capacity to support Haemophilia patients at the community level.
