Shillong: The Dorbar Shnong of Nongjrong has announced that the Nongjrong Viewpoint and all tourist spots in the area will remain closed every Sunday starting January 2026. Entry into the village will be restricted from Saturday night to the end of Sunday, and all homestays will remain shut during this period.
The Dorbar said the decision was taken collectively by the community to manage rising tourist footfall, ease pressure on limited facilities, and provide residents with a weekly day of rest.
Visitors are required to pre-book homestays on other days to avoid overcrowding and ensure smooth arrangements. Bookings can be verified via Google Maps listings of registered homestays.
The Dorbar expressed regret for any inconvenience caused but requested the public’s cooperation, stating that maintaining peace, order, and sustainability in the village is their top priority. Tourists may visit from Monday to Saturday.
