Shillong: The Autumn Session of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly concluded today with the election of Limison D. Sangma of the NPP as the new Deputy Speaker. Speaker Thomas A. Sangma declared Limison elected unopposed after the opposition chose not to field a candidate.
The election was necessitated by the resignation of Timothy D. Shira on the opening day of the session following Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma’s directive. Both ruling and opposition leaders, including Conrad and Dr. Mukul Sangma, congratulated Limison on his unanimous election.
In his remarks, Limison expressed gratitude to the members for their trust and pledged to preside over the Assembly with impartiality and fairness. He assured that he would uphold the dignity of the post and conduct proceedings with transparency.
