Michael N. Syiem, leader of the Maitshaphrang Movement, has emphasized that students should not be labeled as militants or criminals and that their hunger strike is based on legitimate concerns.
Speaking today after visiting protesting students at NEHU, Syiem urged the Government of India to intervene immediately to address the students’ justified demands and resolve the ongoing unrest.
Many NEHU students on hunger strike have been hospitalized after over a week of protest, highlighting the gravity of the situation. Syiem called the students’ movement peaceful and well-founded, demanding immediate government attention to prevent further deterioration of the situation.
