Seng Khasi Kmie to Host 3rd Na Thymmei Festival on October 26-27 at Weiking Ground

The Seng Khasi Kmie, Mawkhar, Shillong, has announced the third edition of the “Na Thymmei Festival,” set to be held on October 26-27, 2024, at Weiking Ground, Jaiaw. This cultural festival, supported by the Tourism Department of Meghalaya, aims to celebrate and promote the rich traditions and heritage of the Hynñiewtrep people.

In a press briefing, members of Seng Khasi Kmie, including Rgh Daw-o-hi Suiam, Rgh Hamar Singh Kharhmar, Ehsing Khiewtam, and Lukhimai competition winner Ema Buhphang, shared details about the event. The festival will feature traditional attire competitions like “Lukhimai and Nai Khatsaw Synnia,” alongside performances of indigenous music, songs, and dances, with participants from across the Hynñiewtrep region.

This year, the festival will also showcase traditional dance troupes from the Garo Hills and Mizoram, adding diversity to the cultural exchange. Visitors can also enjoy a variety of traditional food stalls during the two-day event.

The Na Thymmei Festival serves to highlight the cultural wealth of the Hynñiewtrep people and aims to attract tourists while strengthening cultural ties within the community.
