The Cow is Just an Animal, How Can it Be Called a Mother?”: Rangbah Shnong reaches Umroi Airport

HEADLINES

The Chairman of the Umroi cluster of five Dorbar Shnong, Bah Pyllnwanbor Sylliang, joined local pressure groups at Umroi Airport today to protest the arrival of Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati, a Hindu leader advocating for the cow to be declared as the “mother of India.”
Members of the Khasi Students Union (KSU), Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC), and Hynniewtrep Integrated Territorial Organization (HITO) gathered at the airport to oppose Swami Avimukteshwaranand’s visit, which is part of a campaign to promote cow protection and a ban on beef consumption.

Bah Pyllnwanbor stated that his presence was to ensure that no disturbance or disruption of public peace occurred at the airport. He emphasized that while maintaining peace was a priority, he firmly opposed the idea of considering the cow as a mother. “The cow is an animal, and we cannot accept it being declared as a mother,” he said, rejecting the proposal being promoted by the visiting Hindu leader.
The protests are part of an ongoing resistance by local groups against any attempt to interfere with local food habits and cultural practices.
