Shillong: Shri Sanbor Shullai, North Shillong BJP MLA and Chairman of the Meghalaya Tourism Development Corporation, has strongly condemned the All Assam United Motor Transport Association’s threat to stop delivering goods, including essential supplies, to Meghalaya. He criticized the move, calling it a violation of the long-standing relationship between the two states and a threat to the unity in the Northeast.
Shri Shullai urged Assam Chief Minister and NEDA convener, Himanta Biswa Sarma, to address the issue, warning that such actions could negatively impact the general public.
He also backed the concerns of Meghalaya’s tourist taxi drivers and suggested resolving issues through mutual understanding, citing successful models from states like Sikkim and West Bengal.
Shri Shullai highlighted the efforts by the Meghalaya government, under Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, to expand tourism, aiming for 5 million tourists annually in the next decade. He called for collaboration between tourist drivers in Meghalaya and Assam for mutual benefit.
