A fire broke out early Tuesday morning, engulfing a furniture shop in Pohkseh, under Rynjah Police Station, Shillong, causing widespread panic in the area. The incident occurred around 9 AM, and authorities suspect that the fire may have been caused by an electrical short circuit.
According to the police, the fire nearly spread to a nearby auto workshop, but fortunately, it was contained before reaching the premises. The fire was eventually brought under control with the help of fire trucks and local residents who pitched in to assist.
No casualties have been reported, and the quick response of the fire services and community members prevented the fire from causing further damage.
