‘KHUN HYNÑIEWTREP’ IS A TERM USED TO REPRESENT ALL HUMANS IN THE WORLD AND NOT JUST THE KHASIS: B.V. RYMMAI

HEADLINES

Shillong, 14 : Shri.B.V.Rymmai, an author from Sohra region and who is also the Secretary of Hima Sohra has said that as per his research and the information he has collected from the authors of older books, the term “Khun Hynñiewtrep” does not mean specifically a Khasi but it is a term used to represent all humans in the world.

Shri.B.V.Rymmai has expressed this in his meeting with media persons on Friday where he explained what he had already written in one of his books, ” U Khun Hynñiewtrep Bad Ki Khun ki 3,4 bad 9 Bynta”. If the folklores are taken as evidence and if one asks where do the Khasis come from, the answer is, they come from 12 years of walking and if it is asked why do the Khasis not have a written script, the answer is because the Khasi man had accidentally swallowed the book while swimming across the river.

And if it is asked, from where have the Hynñiewtrep come, the answer is that they came from above and never was it ever said that they came from 12 years of walking.

It is through these folklore that a clear indication is seen in the term “Hynñiewtrep” used to represent all humans under the blue sky in the world and not just the Khasis.

Rymmai feels the need to express that there has been a misunderstanding amongst the Khasis in the present times for when the word “Phareng” is uttered everyone imagines that the term is meant for a person from England, but Rymmai explains that the term itself has been derived from the word “foreign” and when the Khasis could not pronounce it well in the past it became “phareng” but there has been a misunderstanding which has remained amongst the Khasis where they still use the word “phareng” to mean a person from England, but it must be known that this word or term also means a person from Germany, Italy, France and so on and so forth and the same misunderstanding has also remained with the word or term “Hynñiewtrep” and assumed to be used only for Khasis.
