The 21 villages from the Mawshynrut area in West Khasi Hills, along with several pressure groups organised a rally to protest with the delimitation process, which proposes transferring these villages to the Rambrai-Jyrngam constituency for the upcoming MDC elections.
Prior to delimitation, these 21 villages fell under the Mawshynrut constituency.
The rally, which was held at Umshyrpi Bridge, will march towards the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC).
Protesters along with placards, are demanding that the council to reconsider and reverse the delimitation. These villages falls under three polling stations including- Misei, Langdongdai and Mawsmai.
Jeremiah Dkhar, Chairman of the Joint Action Committee (JAC), stated that if KHADC does not address their concerns, they will stage a sit-in protest in front of the KHADC.
