The first ever Kart Race or ‘Jingiakop Pynmareh Kali Ball Bearing’ in the State was held today at Kharang village which is about 30 kms away from Shillong.
On this day, hundreds of children, youths and matured men and women took part enthusiastically in this Kart Race and Cycling Race.
Banteidor Lyngdoh, Minister incharge of the Department of the Sports and Youth Affairs in the State attended this lively race and flagged open the race to inaugurate this race which was organised by the Krang Sports and Cultural Club which is in part to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of the Club.
The Sports Minister in his speech as Chief Guest on this day praised the club for taking the initiative and to revive the traditional Kart Race which is slowly vanishing from the urban areas, while in the rural areas, the residents are still using the karts or the ‘kali ball bearing’ as a means to transport water, wood and others.
