Shillong: Tourism Minister and senior NPP leader, Timothy D. Shira, has stated that in politics no one can predict the future with certainty. Citing the example of the National People’s Party (NPP), he pointed out that the party once had only two MLAs but later secured as many as 18 seats from Garo Hills alone.
Speaking to the media, Shira said that even the Congress, which currently has no MLA or MDC in the state, could revive itself if it fields strong leaders and credible candidates.
He stressed that politics depends solely on the will of the people. “In an earlier election, the NPP had been completely defeated, but in the recent one, it won in large numbers,” he remarked, adding that this shows how unpredictable electoral politics can be.
