Shillong: The United Democratic Party (UDP) has decided not to rush into announcing its participation in the upcoming Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) elections, opting instead to wait for an internal assessment before committing.
UDP president Metbah Lyngdoh said on Monday that the party has constituted a committee comprising senior leaders from Garo Hills to examine ground conditions and recommend whether the party should enter the race. “The committee will study the situation and advise us on the feasibility of contesting,” Lyngdoh stated.
He made it clear that the UDP is not considering any pre-poll tie-ups with its Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) partners. “If we contest, we intend to go alone,” he said.
The party will take a final decision once the committee submits its report.
