The United Democratic Party (UDP) Umroi Circle has officially declared 27-year-old Naphishisha Marwein as its candidate for the upcoming MDC election in Umroi Constituency. A Sociology graduate and former Social Welfare Department employee, Marwein has decided to enter politics to represent her community.
The announcement was made during a gathering attended by prominent UDP leaders, including General Secretary Jemiino Mawthoh, MLA Renikton Tongkhar, Ri Bhoi District President Balajied Rani, State Vice President Mayra Born Syiem, and KHADC Working President Tittos Chyne, along with other party members and supporters.
The event also witnessed leaders and members from other political parties such as TMC, NPP, and Congress joining UDP to extend their support to Marwein.
In her speech, Marwein expressed gratitude for the encouragement and support from UDP leaders and the community. She acknowledged the challenges of being the only female candidate contesting against male opponents in the constituency but expressed confidence in the backing of her supporters. She promised to remain grounded and work with integrity if elected.
