Resubelpara, Oct 12: In a dramatic turn of events, North Garo Hills police apprehended two criminals after the motorcycle they had stolen met with an accident near Berubari under Bajengdoba Police Station on NH-51. The duo, identified as Walchang K. Sangma of Salmanpara, South West Garo Hills, and Mikselbirth Sangma alias Niksengbirth of Gabil Bisa, East Garo Hills, were found injured at the scene.
Police rushed to the spot after being alerted by locals about the crash and discovered that the pair were carrying two handmade wooden arms, five mobile phones, a khukri, and other items in their backpacks. The public, upon noticing the weapons, assaulted the suspects before police intervened and took them into custody.
Medical tests confirmed that both men were under the influence of alcohol. Walchang suffered injuries to his arm and forehead, while Mikselbirth sustained injuries to his leg and hip. Upon interrogation, they confessed to stealing the motorcycle (ML 07 B 7072 – Bajaj Platina) and three mobile phones from a public bus in Rongmil, East Garo Hills, on October 10, intending to sell them in Assam before the crash occurred.
Further investigation revealed that both had prior criminal records — Walchang had earlier been imprisoned for a crime against women, while Mikselbirth was previously arrested in a kidnapping case. They reportedly met in Tura District Jail, where they plotted future crimes after release.
The stolen bike has been verified with Rongjeng PS Case No. 19/2025 U/S 303(2) BNS, and a new case has been registered in connection with the current incident.
