The music community of Shillong was left reeling today as renowned singer Lamphang Syiemlieh publicly confessed to an online scandal involving the theft of a woman’s photos for catfishing purposes. The singer, known for his powerful voice, admitted to creating fake social media profiles using the stolen photos to lure men into sexual relationships.
In a social media post, Syiemlieh confessed to using the woman’s photos over the past year and a half to impersonate her and engage men with sexually explicit messages. He acknowledged that after being rejected when approaching men as himself, he resorted to using a fake female identity in an attempt to gain their attention.
The singer took full responsibility for his actions, admitting that he had intentionally abused the woman’s identity for his personal sexual gratification. He revealed that the incident involved multiple online relationships and expressed regret for his deceitful actions.
Police had received a complaint from Syiemlieh’s relatives regarding his behavior, but they have reportedly decided not to pursue legal action now that he has publicly confessed.
Public response to Syiemlieh’s admission has been largely critical, with many drawing comparisons between him and high-profile figures involved in similar scandals, including American musician Sean ‘P Diddy’ Combs.
