The Minister incharge of Tourism, Paul Lyngdoh said that according to the survey conducted by Sky Scanner, Shillong is set to become India’s most attractive city for tourists in 2025.
Terming it a “great achievement” for the state, Lyngdoh said that the government has recently secured ₹199 crore from the Government of India for two major tourism projects.
This year, Meghalaya welcomed over 15 lakh tourists, with a projected 60% increase in visitor numbers, informed the Minister.
To further enhance connectivity, the government plans to introduce small helicopter services to popular destinations like Sohra, Dawki, Guwahati, Umroi, Umiam and New Shillong. Additionally, plans are underway to establish a Rain Museum in Mawsynram, added Lyngdoh.
On festivals, Lyngdoh said that the upcoming Bryan Adam concert is managed by private organisers however, he added that the Cherry Blossom Festival is fully funded by the government.
