Shillong: Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Friday assured that the expert committee report on Meghalaya’s reservation policy will be made public soon, stating that the delay is due to the sheer volume and sensitivity of the document.
Addressing concerns raised by opposition VPP president Ardent Basaiawmoit, who has threatened to launch a protest if the report is not released, Sangma said the report runs into nearly 4,000 to 5,000 pages and weighs around 200 kg. He explained that such a massive document cannot be released without thorough scrutiny, as even a minor error or a misplaced word could significantly change its interpretation.
The Chief Minister said the chief secretary and other senior officials are carefully examining every page and line of the report before it is formally submitted. Once the scrutiny is completed, the report will be placed before the state Cabinet for discussion. He reiterated that there is no intention to withhold the report from the public.
Calling the reservation policy a highly sensitive and important issue, Sangma said the government is proceeding with caution and responsibility.
He assured that immediately after the Cabinet is briefed, the report will be made public, underlining that the findings of the expert committee are meant for the people of Meghalaya.
