Shillong: The spokesperson of the government,
Paul Lyngdoh stated that the government decision to re-open the road through Them Metor is solely intended to reduce traffic congestion.
Speaking to reporters, Lyngdoh clarified that the decision to ease traffic has no connection with the government’s plans to relocate the Harijan community from the area. According to the minister, the preparation for the community’s relocation is a separate issue and unrelated to vehicle movement.
On November 4, the state government has allowed vehicles to pass through Them Iewmawlong, reopening the road for the first time in six years following its closure after a communal clash in 2018.
